How do I sign up?

For the group class, you will need the student registration letter.  Either call me at 647-6633 or email me your name, address,

due date, phone numbers, and the name of the doctor or midwife you see.  I send out that letter which essentially says to send

in your $25 deposit which reserves your space in class.  Call for information about the Video classes, the Birth Class In A Bag,

or the Crash Course.

I'm planning on an epidural.  Do I still need to take a class?

YES!  Childbirth classes are intended to prepare you for whatever type of birth you encounter. Childbirth is one of
those experiences that tends to be full of surprises.  For instance, you might arrive at the hospital too far advanced
in your labor to get an epidural.  You might find the labor less painful and more manageable than you expected.  If
you do have an epidural you need some important information on how they are administered and what exactly takes
place.  An epidural is not just a shot in the back!  In my class you will see an actual epidural needle kit, learn all about
the procedure, and see a video of a mom receiving an epidural.   You will in fact learn about all the medications used
in labor and delivery, in addition to so many other relevant pregnancy, labor and postpartum topics.

I'm very scared of labor, will your class help with that?

Yes, very much.  It is normal to worry about labor.  Much of the fear comes from not knowing what is going to happen.
Movies and television also put lots of negative, over dramatized and scary images in your mind.  You may also have other
women, even total strangers, telling you horror stories.  No wonder you are afraid!  But once you start to learn all about
labor in my class you will start to feel much better.  The birth process will be de-mystified.  You will find out concrete
things you can do to help yourself.  Your partner will learn things he can do to help you too.   No one is ever completely
unafraid going into labor, but coming to class will help you get your fears down to a manageable level, and replace many
of them with clear plans on what to do in labor. You will see birth films and hear lots of stories of real labors, ones that
have gone well!  Those positive stories will help balance out all the negative stories you may have heard.  You will have
a much more realistic and positive image of labor.  See what former students have written on the "Comments" page.

When should I sign up?

You can sign up any time in pregnancy. You want your class to be over a month or less from your due date.  For example,
if your baby is due in March, you want the January - February class.  If your due date is close to the beginning of the
month, then you may want the class that starts one month earlier.  In my class you receive lots of printed information that
you can use to help you remember all the key points from the end of your class series until you have your baby.  I often
give out the 7th and/or 8th classes on videotape in advance to anyone whose due date is too close to the end of the
series.

If you don't have much time left, consider the Video Classes, the Birth Class In A Bag, or the Crash Course.  Unless you are
having contractions right now I can probably accommodate you!

Where are the classes held?  What time?

I teach in my home, in a neighborhood in East Ventura which is almost behind the Century 16 Movie Theatre.  The main
cross streets are Johnson, Bristol and Ramelli. We begin at 7pm and are usually done by 9pm.
